VOLUNTEERS MUST READ:

Do’s and Don’ts for Family Promise Volunteers

 

DO:

  • Be sensitive, hospitable, and compassionate.

  • Let guests initiate conversations and be a listener.

  • Greet guest with your name first.

  • Be Flexible!

  • Dress comfortable, casual, and respectful.

  • Only use restrooms by front office.

  • Report anything to a coordinator that you think we should be aware of.

 

DON’T:

  • RULE #1: DON’T ASK FAMILIES QUESTIONS! - let them initiate conversations.

    • Don’t ask what schools they attend.

    • Don’t ask about jobs.

  • Don’t talk about your personal life.

    • During the summer, be mindful and do not discuss - even between volunteers - any plans about summer vacations or travels.

    • During Christmas, be mindful and do not discuss gift giving, Christmas shopping, or family plans.

  • Don't have any expectations.

  • Don't take things personally.

  • Don’t be judgmental.

  • We aren’t here to discipline children - Redirect their attention.

  • Don’t enter guests’ rooms out of respect & privacy.

  • Don’t take pictures of guests.

  • Don’t share personal contact information with guests.

  • Don’t give any donation of money or gifts to guests. All donations must go through the Host Coordinator or Executive Director.

  • DO NOT DISCLOSE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE FAMILIES IN THE PROGRAM WITH ANYONE OUTSIDE OF ST. JANE FAMILY PROMISE.
